DIRECTOR OF BIOMEDICAL BUSINESS
‘I’m hoping what we do makes a difference to someone else’s life.’
Biomedical Business Director Johnathon Choi is a lucky, lucky guy. He gets to work hard in the field he specialises in and loves, and he gets to see the positive effect his work has on others, every single day. And that’s a very rewarding place to be.
‘I oversee a lot of the medical device related projects. I liaise with the customers and provide input within Romar from a technical and a compliance perspective (making sure we comply with all the regulatory and quality requirements) and I get to see the medical devices being manufactured and how they are used.
And part of my role is seeking out more opportunities for Romar to develop within the medical device space.’
Johnathon has worked in the biomedical space for 13 years, and enjoys the company, respect and friendship of his colleagues at Romar.
‘I took up engineering because I like challenges – I like to think outside the box.’
A natural born problem solver, Johnathon gets his drive and energy from facing problems head on and immense satisfaction from resolving problems.
‘When I decided to go to Uni I wanted to get into the health-care space in one form or another. I thought about whether I should become a doctor, but engineering seemed more interesting to me than becoming a doctor. Because I also wanted to make a difference biomedical engineering seemed a perfect fit.’
‘I love it most when people come in with an idea – and our job starts. How can we design this? How are we going to manufacture?’
When he’s not developing ground-breaking, lifesaving medical devices, Johnathon loves to catch up with friends, and think about his next holiday destination – which we’re pretty sure is somewhere in Europe.
