Rita Nicolas thrives on challenges. And processes. And development. And as Production Manager at Romar, she needs to be on her toes every single day.
‘With production there is always something going on – new processes to discuss and develop.’
Rita’s expertise lies in biomedical engineering and material science. She manages the design, development and verification of medical devices before and after they go to market.
Rita knew engineering would be a good fit for her. She got an internship at Romar straight out of university.
‘I’m good with maths and I like making things! Biomedicine is an upcoming field and there’s great future growth there.’
Rita likes to figure out how to make things work. And she feels strongly about working in a field where she can contribute to society in a beneficial manner.
‘I use what I’m good at to make a difference.’
Just a little obsessed with concerts and music, Rita balances the intricate, challenging nature of her work with a social life that reeks of youth and energy.
But when she’s at work, her drive and determination to succeed shine through every day.
‘There’s no point in doing something if you’re not going to do it well.’
Driven by challenges, Rita admits that it’s only the odd occasion where things work straight away. Normally there’s tweaking and a whole heap of variables, but when it does work – she’s one happy girl.
Her pet hate is when people make assumptions without individual thought and research.
That, and people’s inability to take constructive criticism.
‘Use it as a positive and move on. Learn from your mistakes.’
Travel, and seeing Placebo and Ed Sheeran live are top of Rita’s bucket list at the moment. And this determined girl will definitely get what she wants.
